In the 1960s, Professor Kim Bong Han and a team of researchers in Korea attempted to document the existence of meridians in the human body using microdissection techniques. They found evidence that there exists a series of autonomous ductlike tubes corresponding to the paths of traditional acupuncture meridians. Fluids in this system sometimes travel in the same direction as the blood and lymph, but at other times flow in the opposite direction. They realized that these ducts are different from the vascular and lymphatic systems that Western science has previously identified, and that the meridians themselves might exist within them.

The existence of the meridian system was further established by French researcher Pierre de Vernejoul, who injected radioactive isotopes into the acupoints of humans and tracked their movement with a special gamma imaging camera. The isotopes traveled thirty centimeters along acupuncture meridians within four to six minutes. Vernejoul then challenged his work by injecting isotopes into the blood vessels at random areas of the body rather than into acu-points. The isotopes did not travel in the same manner at all, further indicating that the meridians do indeed comprise a system of separate pathways within the body.

In Coherent Power Generation by Jerry E. Bayles he describes orthogonal serpentine quantum wave, using the symbol of the Caduceus - an image available to humanity throughout the ages:

"Energy is everywhere and in many forms. Some forms are organized while other forms seem to be chaotic and totally random. This paper deals with the natural conversion of random energy to organized energy wherein the possible explanation for this process is presented as a quantum solution involving phase and group waves orthogonal to each other.

The attraction between two parallel electrical currents can be generalized to postulate the following: Quantum particles which are traveling in parallel paths will tend to interact. Further, if the speed of a particle is changed, it will affect the speed of a particle in a parallel path causing the affected particle to either speed up or slow down so as to come into alignment along the phase wave vector, which is orthogonal to the direction of the particle's motional group velocity. Furthermore, if a particle is in motion, it will affect other particles so as to cause them to move in the same direction. Thus, as with parallel electrical currents moving in the same direction, the force between them will always tend to be one of attraction."

It looks like this (see the image below) - orthogonal serpentine electromagnetic energy - a quantum wave, instantly changing the energy of a particular channel/meridian - from minimal funtioning capacity, to a maximum/optimal level/capacity. After a treatment, I always notice this facial rejuvenating effect that an acupuncture treatment has got on me, among other more potent effects, such as release of stress and newly found optimism.

In Chinese medicine, the element of Wood corresponds to the energy of the Liver / Gallbladder channels. These two channels are responsible for generating brain power - the Mind / Spirit in a human being. To purify the energy of the Liver / Gallbladder channels, so to advance the Mind / Spirit, use the elements of Air / Metal. The Air / Metal elements are directly related to the energy of the Lung / Large Intestine channels.

The ancient Chinese would say: 'Metal cuts Wood', meaning, the elements of 'Air and Metal', acting upon the 'Wood element', purify the 'Mind and Spirit'. Endorphin Production (Contemporary Interpretation): . . ."in the human brain, the endorphins 1) block the transmission of messages along pain pathways by inhibiting nerves from firing 2) reinforce the flow of information from primitive centers in back of the brain forward to the higher thought centers in the cerebral cortex, by chemically rewarding behaviors, instincts, and memories."(p.185) "Endorphins perform some 'simple functions' - like heartbeat and body temperature regulation - and some 'fancy functions' having to do with emotions and drives." Apparently, the breath regulates all bodily functions, keeping the human spirit in balance. The longer the breath remains regular and regulated, the better for the intellect. The process, apparently, allows for a deeper inquiry into one's own brain and its 'procedural manual', since endorphins 'reinforce the flow of information from the primitive centers forward, toward the higher thought centers in the cerebral cortex.' The best analysis I have seen of this process was Timothy Leary's description of NEUROGENETIC RECEPTIVITY, in his Exo-Psychology.

"Neurogenetic receptivity occurs when the nervous system starts receiving signals from DNA. DNA designs and constructs nervous systems and maintains supervisory and reconstructive communication with somatic cells and neurons mediated by RNA. The nervous system continually receives DNA and RNA signals. Inside the nucleus of every neuron, there 'lives' a DNA master-plan which contains a record of the chain of bodily re-incarnations back to the origin of life on this planet. When 'this' circuit is activated, the signals from DNA become conscious. Neurogenetic consciousness is not restricted to past perspectives. The outlines of the future DNA blueprint are also available" . . . (T. Leary, Exo-Psychology, p: 120)

What are the implications here? Noam Chomsky's hypothesis that the human brain is a self-contained, complete system, a body of knowledge which, like a language with its syntax, can be tapped into 'a priori', comes to mind.

Michael Talbot, in The Holographic Universe , concludes that acupuncture too emerges as yet another holographic model, based on the idea that every organ and bone in the body can be accessed through at least one or many specific points on the body's surface.(p: 113)

If the complete body of Universal knowledge can be accessed through systematic expanding and mapping of our brains by constantly generating and increasing our brains' endorphin production, then aerobic activity, acupuncture, and computer work are the most potent, least harmful, stimuli/catalysts available to us at this time, in mediating this process.

Psychedelic drugs also mediate endorphin production in the brain. But most people are not evolved enough to benefit from the knowledge imparted. Systematic inquiry is next to impossible since our bodies are too fragile to withstand routine drug use. The liver and kidneys can't process the toxins generated. Most people abuse these substances, instead of using them to potently intruct their minds.
